Good Morning Everyone!
I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days at Carla's "Deer Camp" (a term to be applied quite loosely) with Carrie, Carla and Mary. Fun doesn't even begin to describe the experience, it was gut busting, full on hilarity on steroids. I can't remember when I've laughed so hard and so much at the dumbest shit. I really thought for sure I'd have tons of stories to share about the weekend, but honestly, you simply had to be there. We talked incessantly about the Morning Rituals sweater causing StD and the husbands were upset, and I know you're not laughing. StD stands for Stitch Discipline, something crazy that Mary coined, it's right up there with "Stitchuation".
I will share the story of the lost cable needle, my cable needle of course. I decided I needed to use my time working on the Morning Rituals sweater, I DID NOT BRING ANOTHER PROJECT. Pretty ballsy move, it would have been nice to have a "talking" project, but I was able to complete the front of my sweater almost without incident. I knew I was going to wake up to a slight problem Monday morning, I'd been knitting under the influence Sunday night, late Sunday night. I kept taking out and reknitting the same stitches, my stitch count was off, I had stitch markers in, what is the matter with me? Well, I finally decided I was likely going to make things worse the more I tried to "fix" it. Perhaps maybe I should just go to bed, that was a good decision. I'm up early and figure out in a matter of seconds that my stupid stitch marker was in the wrong place. I can't begin to tell you how absolutely challenging this was to me only hours before. I'm knitting along, by this time everyone else is up and settled into their knitting. I've come to a cable row. Where is my cable needle? I start silently looking in all the obvious places, retracing steps, crawling under furniture, checking the sweater I had on yesterday. Carla comes to the rescue, she has all of her cable needles with her. I grab one and then Carrie says, "This cable needle?" OMG it was where I'd left it, stuck in my Morning Rituals so I wouldn't lose it, seriously...
And yes, I checked there first lol.....There were loads of instances like that, it took me 3 times of picking up and putting down my knitting to remember that I wanted to go inside and get my project bag so that my balls of yarn would stop rolling around on the porch. You know when you walk into a room and have no idea why....
We did experience a very exciting moment Sunday evening, Carrie has been selected to Test Knit Jenn Steingass' latest sweater design!! It's called Snowbloom and like her others, just beautiful. I only have three of hers in my queue, Forest Light, Thistlewood and Greenleaf along with two Caitlin Hunter designs, Stromboli and Bergman, three sweaters on the needles, and an Isabell Kraemer hanging on the back burner. Should I mention the Foxthoughts? I also had to have the special edition of Laine's Nordic Knits that has Caitlin Hunter's Autumn Bloom Vest plastered on the cover. I know I'm in good company, but it gets a bit overwhelming when I start making an actual list, it doesn't seem as daunting when it's in my head. At least I know this is a no judgement zone.
Stay tuned, we will be discussing the details for the Winter Retreat, it's scheduled for January 25-26th.
It is Election Day, I know this will be one of the highest voter turnouts, and will likely go down in history, regardless of the outcome. Go get your sticker and get counted. We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30, for Stitch and Bitch, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!
