Learning From Mistakes...

Good Morning Everyone!

The difference a week makes. Last week I was struggling to string words together, let alone my thoughts, it happens. This past week has given me much to reflect on and definitely learn a thing or two along the way. The current KAL is providing ample opportunities to exercise patience and persistence. During Stitch and Bitch last week, Carla and I courageously removed our needles from Morning Rituals and began Frogging. The tearing out wasn't so much of a problem or even getting the stitches back onto the needles, it was figuring out where exactly we were in the chart. Carla was only contending with the middle cable, she'd forgotten to purl the stitches before and after the cable. I, on the other hand, was dealing with multiple cables in which the cabling happens on different rows. I prefer to have my temper tantrums in private, a lesson instilled from my mother, so I sat there swearing and laughing at my mistake while thinking I wasn't sure I'd be able to figure out how to fix it. In most cases I believe in safety in numbers, in this case, I knew I needed peace and quiet.

One of the gifts working with boucle offers is it's forgiving, it does hide some mistakes. I kept this in mind as I struggled to figure out the sequence of the cabled chart, I could be off one row and it wouldn't matter. So I got myself back to a cabled row and brilliantly determined a way to count the rows until I had to cable the middle, I impress myself sometimes. I won't bore you with the details, but if you find yourself in the same boat, I'm your life line. Let's jump back to Carla, she got herself back on track and said, "I'm putting a stitch marker in before the purl stitches, I'm not making that mistake again." I unknowingly filed that piece of information into my brain and it resurfaced last night. I'd attached the pockets and was finally only focusing on the center cable for the front and back. Thankfully, I kept catching myself forgetting to purl only after a few stitches into the cable. I remembered Carla's words of wisdom, PUT IN A STITCH MARKER!!! I honestly didn't think I would need the reminder, but I totally did. I ended up texting her last night validating her, I completely understood how easy it would be to forget to purl. Long story for a short message, one of the wonderful benefits of doing a KAL is to learn from each other. THANK-YOU CARLA!!!

I can honestly say that I am enjoying working with the Boucle. It has taken a bit of getting used to, but the fabric it creates is simply gorgeous. My friend Carlie stopped by on Friday, specifically looking for more Boucle. She'd already finished Andrea Mowry's Brume and wanted more yarn to knit another one. Here's the pattern https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/brume-10 If you're still uncertain about Boucle, Berroco's Vento would be an amazing option. I would seriously knit this sweater in Boucle. I know I said last week that I would only knit one Boucle sweater, but I changed my mind lol. Another benefit of doing a KAL is using materials you're not familiar with, I've also gotten used to the feel of working with Boucle. Maybe I should give Continental knitting a try again....Don't be afraid to try new things, it ups your skill set and the feeling of accomplishment is impossible to put into words, but wearing that sweater is the badge of honor.

Carrie and I have been working on the Advent Calendars, OMG are they cute!! They are full of the cutest gifts and are available for knitters or crocheters. They are $150.00, they are limited, so don't miss out. We do have KAL this Saturday, October 26th 9-11:00, hopefully it will be warm enough to sit outside. Can you believe this gorgeous stretch of weather??? Unfortunately it's getting dark too early for us to sit outside for Stitch and Bitch unless you want to bring headlamps. We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30, for Stitch and Bitch I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!

Katy
