Good Morning Everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration and you've recovered from the turkey coma. We are still "enjoying" every creative culinary derivative imaginable with our leftovers, I feel zero guilt subjecting my family to endless meals of turkey. I figure with the hours it took me to prepare the feast, the least they can do is eat every single morsel of it. Turkey soup, turkey salad, hot turkey sandwiches, cold turkey sandwiches, apple pie for breakfast (what they don't know is I froze a big container of soup) Seriously, sometimes too much of a good thing is just too much, except knitting of course.
A BIG THANK-YOU to all that visited the shop on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, my heart is full of gratitude. The Christmas music was going, my new Christmas candle was burning, and the best part of my day was seeing each of you. I somehow managed by myself on Friday, thankfully, Carrie offered to help me out on Saturday, it was crazy busy!!! My first customer on Friday was Nicole's husband, Tom, like 10:01 first customer. He wanted to make sure that his wife scored the last Advent Calendar, apparently she knows how to drop a solid hint, I was happy to oblige. Imagine the look on my face when said wife walked through my door the next day lamenting about the Advent Calendar she wasn't going to get. I proceeded to tell her how lame her family was and maybe next year....Needless to say, I chuckled upon receiving the following message on Sunday from her, "You are sooooo good at keeping a secret! I got my Advent Calendar today." I responded with, "Want to play poker?"
I know that you've seen my BEEEEautiful Bee Vest on Social, I'll be wearing it Wednesday to Stitch and Bitch. It was such a fun project, especially after Morning Rituals. The beading was a different type of tedious and definitely much easier to identify and fix. I'd screwed up the spacing and color of one of my bees. The thought of frogging all of my beadwork made me extremely upset, but there was no way to fudge it (unlike the "bent" antenna). I was able to magically rework just that one bee by pulling out each vertical row of beading and fix it (like a dropped stitch). It was at that moment I realized I could have done the same thing to fix the bead I'd missed earlier, oh well....I always try the path of least resistance first, knowing that I may not be avoiding the inevitable. This time, it worked to my advantage and I upped my skill set, YAY!!! I've been so inspired I think I'm ready to try embroidering my plain, gray Il Favorito Grande sweater. It's fun to try something new, my spirit of adventure was not crushed by knitting pockets and working with Boucle, it actually fueled the creative fire.
Speaking of creative fire, I CAST ON THE BERGMAN!!!! This project has been taunting me for weeks! I've been staring at the nicely wound up yarn nestled in my new Cocoknits project bag, pining to start. I've already screwed it up, late night knitting will do that of course...I hadn't noticed my error until about 4 rows up, when I did, my initial reaction was, F@#K followed immediately by, no one will notice, followed by, it's going to mock me if I don't fix it. What else do I have to do at 11:00 at night but tink back 5 rows of colorwork? And of course, I'm holding mohair with the contrast color to make it softer and to add a little extra loft. This adds to the tinking process, but like I said, what else have I got going on??? Do I always fix my mistakes? No, sometimes they can work themselves into the design with success, other times, not so much. I did look at it for a bit weighing the pros and cons. Needless to say, it was worth the effort to fix, it would have totally thrown off the look of the colorwork, I wouldn't be able to unsee it. Most importantly, it gave me a story to tell and hopefully the message we all need to hear sometimes. As my Mimi ALWAYS said, "Anything worth doing, is worth doing right."
This Monday, December 9th is Knitter's Anonymous at Carla's. Carrie has created a Facebook group so we can better communicate and coordinate, if you would like to be included, let me know. The theme is Italian Night, we have each volunteered to bring something to eat/drink. Carrie graciously drives me down, there is room in her van if you'd like to ride with us, we leave from my house around 4:00.
We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30, for Stitch and Bitch, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!
Katy
