Embrace The Cozy...

Good Morning Everyone!

It looks like it's Winter's turn to hang around this week, no complaints here. I have always been a big fan of Winter, I still get excited knowing a snowstorm is on its way. For me, there's nothing better than coming back from a snowy hike, grabbing a big mug of coffee and knitting. I must say, I'm pretty damn lucky, it's on my "to do" list every single day. Admittedly, the snowstorm is hardly the catalyst, it's actually Bernie who ultimately gets things rolling each morning. I suppose I could say my reward is coffee and copious amounts of knitting. All and all, I could hardly function without each of the aforementioned components, what better way to start the day?

Speaking of copious amounts of knitting, I have more information about the Winter Retreat scheduled for February 1 & 2 at Carla's "camp" in Belvidere. The accommodations are cozy, you will not feel like you're in a camp, AT ALL. The sleeping quarters are essentially bunk rooms, but they are by far the nicest bunk beds I've ever seen. If you would like to attend the retreat and come just during the day, the cost is $75 this includes your meals. If you would like to spend the night, the cost is $100 this includes your meals and cleaning fee. You indicated from the last retreat that you wanted a choice of projects that could be completed during the weekend. Carrie has graciously accommodated your request, you may select from (3) projects (both knit and crochet). I will provide you with the links when you purchase your yarn. There have been a couple requests to have another "How To Use Ravelry" presentation from Carrie, let me know if there are any other topics you'd like to have featured. The deadline to sign up is January 15th, yep, I'm giving you a week lol....

I received the order from Fairmount Fibers on Saturday for the Elise Pullover KAL. Those of you who selected the Feliz by Manos del Uruguay, your yarn is here!!! We will be casting on February 22nd, I am so excited, I do love starting a new project, it's a feeling that never gets old. I also started listening to another book, The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama. My favorite part, so far, is her recount of learning how to knit when the pandemic started. Despite having decades more experience in this area than her, she reminded me of the sheer simple joys of casting on, the art of completing each row, watching the yarn transform into something beautiful and then binding off. She is an amazing story teller, I love the message she is relaying, it's so human and relatable. I'm not Oprah, but I highly recommend this book, there's a sense of comfort in it's meaning.

If you're wondering what's on my needles, I've been working on Whitehorse by Caitlin Hunter. I was forced to take a break from Clay Cardigan by Pope Vergara, I ran out of beads!! Carrie to the rescue, she was able to find more and dropped them off to me, THANK-YOU!!! I am almost finished with the GORGEOUS lace and bobble adorned yoke, the color is just rich. I was a bit concerned that it was "too rich" and the design wouldn't show, I think I'm wrong. I ended up pairing Aerial black mohair with BC Garn Bio Shetland in a color called Sloe, I'm guessing it's German for black and purple lol...Claudia or Emma can enlighten me. Regardless, it is a deep eggplant and stunning, I love it. The body is worked in reverse stockinette which means endless purling in the round, ugh...I'm already thinking ahead to what I can toss onto the needles before the next KAL starts, the goal is to have these both finished. Taking bets, placing bets, anyone feeling lucky? Sucker's bet?

We will be having Knitter's Anonymous next Monday, January 13th at Carla's house, starts at 4:00 ends when the last person leaves. Carrie graciously drives, we leave by 4:00 if you want to ride down, meet me at the shop. We will be gathering tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30 for Stitch and Bitch, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great, snowy, cozy day and I'll see you soon!

Katy
