Did Someone Say, "Boo-Clay?"

Good Morning Everyone!

Before I start off on what's been spinning around in my head while I took my FIRST HIKE BACK UP HARD'ACK this morning, boy was Bernie happy!! Let me take a moment to say, "Thank-you" to everyone who has participated in the creation of the chickens for the BROODHAHA. They are all so cute, I am going to have a difficult time giving them up. What has been most unexpected is the reaction I see when customers come into the shop, they are drawn to them instantly. Who can blame them? They have so much personality and a story to tell. The deadline to drop them off is August 22nd. You may bring them to me, Arleigh Young at City Hall, or Artist In Residence at 10 South Main Street. I do have plenty of safety eyes in stock, and a bag of Poly-fil if you're in need.

So what was occupying my thoughts this beautiful, cool, drizzly, morning? Other than how much I love my new Butternut Squash colored raincoat THAT DOESN'T LEAK!!! Well, it has to do with the upcoming KAL, Morning Rituals by Andrea Mowry. Peggy contacted me yesterday hoping I had one more skein of yarn so she could finish her Sorbet sweater. Of course I came to the rescue, PHEW!! She asked me if I'd swatched Julie's Boucle for the sweater, I wound that yarn over 3 weeks ago. Nope, I've been busy procrastiknitting my Tresse and making another chicken. This was not the answer she was looking for, needless to say, she offered to take my yarn and swatch it. I declined and she reminded me it really wouldn't take that long to do. I promised I'd do it and guess what, I did!! I also learned a little bit about Boucle while trying to find information about how to measure a gauge swatch in the round. Yes, I did my swatch in the round using my Chiaogoo Shortie, brilliant!!

So what did I learn? The easiest way to measure how many stitches per inch is to hold it up to the sun, without blinding yourself, grab your tape measure and count the holes. I did this several times, I don't trust myself at all. What made it even more interesting was the gauge she is asking for, it's just plain stupid, there I said it. 17.5 stitches for 4", WHY??????? That translates to 4.375 stitches/inch. Wouldn't it be easier to just say 4.5 especially since the positive ease on this sweater is 8-12" I'm instantly irritated, and text Andra to vent a bit, mission accomplished I'm ready to move forward. It wouldn't exactly be the first or last time I fudge gauge anyway, so why get my panties in a twist before the fun starts?

The pattern calls for a US Size 6 for the main body, I'm easily on a #7 and could likely go to an #8 if I wanted to employ my death grip, white knuckle knitting technique. But Boucle lends itself to a looser stitch, the curls in the yarn create that lovely texture and squish. I did several rounds and can easily see the sweater is going to be simply delightful, I love how it feels. This yarn needs to be ordered sooner than later, Julie has sent me all of the colors in a PDF. We are meeting for KAL this Saturday, July 27th 9-11:00 I would like to have the majority of the order then. You may certainly come in prior to that or at least let me know when you'd like to come in. If you're not interested in knitting the Morning Rituals but would like to try Boucle, another lovely option would be Berroco's Tartufo sweater that was featured in the Talara Collection. Or perhaps the Kate Pullover that I knit using the Talara, it's always good to have options...

I'm super excited that I'm going YARN HAULING TOMORROW!!!! I'm honestly most excited that Susan is making HOMEMADE SCONES!!! We are trekking all the way down to Lebanon, NH to Scratch and then making our way back North hitting all the points of interest we can. We will be back in time for Stitch and Bitch, I'll make sure the shop door is unlocked just in case it is raining. Tomorrow night will be fun, you'll get to hear all about our big yarn adventure and see the latest Stash Builders!!! Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!

Katy

P.S. Wait until you see my beautiful Windrock Pullover I'm knitting with Berroco's BRAND NEW MILLSTONE TWEED!!!! Stop by....
