Good Morning Everyone!
I thought the saying was, "April Showers Bring May Flowers." But perhaps it's, "April Snow Makes The Flowers Grow." Who wants this? I've always resented snow in April, seriously, enough already we are well into Spring, a solid 19 days in, but who's counting? I guess Punxsutawney Phil was right, at least 6 more weeks of winter, we are officially entering week 9, once again, who's counting? I have said, in my world, it's always sweater weather. I was hoping to put away the warm woolies in exchange for the lighter weight "transitional" sweaters I talk about. I don't want to wear my winter sweaters any longer. It's bad enough I intentionally leave my winter boots by the door year round, because, "you just never know" I get it, it can snow in April, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
Speaking of transitional sweaters, my Niche is coming along quite "nichely," I am almost ready to start sleeve number 2. This sweater has been a welcome change in a lot of ways, the construction of it is unique. It is knit flat, starting at the right cuff and you build the shape up through the neckline then work your way down the other side. It is a beautifully textured sweater consisting of moss stitch and is embellished with a lace and cable pattern up one sleeve, across the front and down the other sleeve. It will definitely stand alone in it's design, I don't own anything else like it. What's been enjoyable about knitting this sweater is, I haven't had to immerse myself in reading the pattern. It's been easy to memorize, the knitting becomes rhythmic, almost intuitive, but it keeps you engaged. I am excited to finish so you can see it and hopefully it will inspire you to knit one too. Berroco's Iris truly lends itself to this type of knitting, the drape is lovely and because of the construction of the yarn, the stitch definition is amazing. Alas, it is the perfect weather to sit, knit and watch the snow fall...ugh.
I'm sure by now you've heard that Local Yarn Store Day is Saturday, April 26th!!! I have been busy with Carrie planning all kinds of fun things to do to promote this. I know I already sound like a broken record with my daily reminders on Instagram and Facebook, but it is an important day for my business and it means a lot to me to celebrate with all of you. I want to make it fun and exciting up to and PAST that day. I absolutely love what I do! I love that I have been able to find a way to justify knitting every single day, sacrificing a spotlessly clean house for a beautiful new sweater. I have ordered special inventory for LYS day, project bags from DellaQ, kits from Koigu, LYS day merchandise, and of course, there are loads of FREE PATTERNS that Carrie and I will have kits for. I hope that you will be able to join Carrie and I, it's going to be a fantastic day!
A quick reminder that we have KA at Carla's on Monday April 14th starting around 4:00, please bring something to share to eat/drink. Amanda is helping to coordinate the Pride Weekend in St. Albans, I believe it's the weekend of June 6th. They are looking for donations for their silent auction and two raffles, if you'd like to donate a knit/crochet item, the deadline is May 23rd. We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30 for Stitch and Bitch, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!
